DESCRIPTION
The LUCIE COUSTURIER motif is inspired by the paintings of the artist Séraphine Louis, also known as De Senlis. As a self-taught artist the painter’s technique is known as the much loved Naïve art form.
SERAPHINE OCHRE features an abstract flamboyant crocus flower motif in warm colours in rose ‘maple’, brown ‘rust’ , and dark blue ‘night’ on a warm yellow base in ‘ochre’. The pattern is captivating with it’s clear motif, colours, and replicative design. A motif that reminds us of the sun shining through stained-glass church windows (from which the artist often got her inspiration), but with the added energy and repetitiveness reflective of the artist’s own psyche, as she shifted between ecstasy and mental illness troughout her life.
