Merchant & Mills MILK Linen 185 g/m2 (Hør) 225DKK/meter

from DKK 2.25

European laundered linen, tumbled at the mill for softness. Off white (more warm than Virgin white).

The 185 dress weight linen is the renowned Merchant & Mills go-to-linen for all garment making. It is a great match for most kinds of dresses, tops, and loose fitting trousers.

The linen also works well for lighter curtains for a casual less refined look. We recommend using a lining for curtains to prevent fading.

The linen is produced in small batches in Eastern Europe where there is a strong heritage of spinning and weaving linen fabric. The 185 linen collection is woven in a mill run on green energy and is Oeko-Tex certified.

We offer beautiful buttons and high-quality zippers to complement this fabric.

Fabric data

Fabric is sold in increments of 1 cm: 1 item is 1 cm. If you order 100 items, you have ordered 1,00 meter fabric.

Material: 100% linen 185 g/m2 (100% Hør 185 g/m2)

Certificate: OEKO-TEX® 100

Dyes: The dyes used on this cloth are GOTS certified

Softening process Softened with a mechanical process 'Mill Wash'. A mechanical softening process (‘wash’) does not use water, enzymes or chemical substances, and is environmentally friendly.

Made in Eastern Europe

Width: 143cm - Weight: 185 g/m2 (5.5oz)

Wash at 30 degrees Celcius on a delicate cycle, with a low spin setting, using non bio detergent.

Drying Do not tumble. Shake out and dry flat. Linen will always seize up after washing but as soon as you start to use/wear it the fibres relax again. Never dry linen in direct sunlight as the colour can bleach and fade.

More about linen

Linen is naturally stain resistant, it does not pile, and it is moth repellent. It is easy to wash as it can sustain high temperatures, it has very little if no shrinkage and is very strong.

It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, hypo allergenic and thermoregulating, it will also absorb up 20% moisture before feeling damp.

As linen fibers have low elasticity (which causes it to crease) it will wear in any areas that are repeatedly folded in the same place for a long time, however it does have much better abrasion resistance than for example cotton.

Eco Credentials

Flax is a strong plant best grown in northern Europe. It needs little or no fertilisers and due to the local climate, little extra water. It doesn’t really require many pesticides either as it can grow in poor quality soil.

The Advisory Commission Report to the European Parliament stated that flax cultivation has positive effects on eco-system diversity as it allows for an “environmental pause”. One hectare of flax can retain 3.7 tonnes of CO2.

Every part of the plant is used, what isn’t used to produce linen can be used to make linseed oil, paper, cattle feed or even soap.

Linen is therefore almost naturally organic. It is completely biodegradable, recyclable and due to its natural absorbency, it requires less dye than cotton. Linen therefore scores high on the ecological chart.
